BSECS Annual Conference - Submit a proposal

You do not need to be a member to submit a proposal but you will usually need to register to attend the conference, and this will require membership of BSECS or one of its sister eighteenth-century societies.

The deadline for submission of papers and panel proposals is Monday 15th October 2012. You will be notified by Monday 15th October 2012 as to whether your proposal has been accepted. If you are travelling from outside the UK and need an earlier decision, please mention this in your proposal and we shall endeavour to reach a decision earlier.

BSECS welcomes proposals for papers and sessions to panels, sessions and papers.

Panels

BSECS strongly encourages the submission of pre-formed panels of usually three but occasionally four papers, ideally along with a pre-assigned chairperson.

As well as personal details, you will be asked for:

  • Panel title
  • Brief description of the proposed panel (max. 3000 characters)
  • Name and contact details of the proposed panel chairperson
  • Name and email address of each speakers
  • Title and abstract for each paper

Roundtables

A roundtable is a more informal session in which several speakers deal with a topic appropriate to the conference followed by extensive audience discussion. Each panelists may wish to begin the session with a short, introductory address; this should last no more than five minutes.

As well as your personal details, you will be asked for:

  • Roundtable title
  • Brief description of the proposed roundtable (max. 3000 characters)
  • Name and contact details of the proposed roundtable chairperson
  • Name and email address of each speaker

Individual papers

Individuals can submit papers which will be presented in an appropriate panel session usually of three papers. BSECS will supply a chairperson for these panels. Papers must be no longer than twenty minutes.

As well as your personal details, you will be asked for a title and abstract (max. 3000 characters).

Alternative format sessions

BSECS encourages proposals for sessions in original and alternative formats. These may take any form considered appropriate for the conference. Previous examples have included demonstrations, interactive workshops and debates.

  • Session title
  • Brief description of the session (max. 3000 characters)
