  • Individual papers

Individuals can submit papers which will be allocated to an appropriate panel session, usually of three papers. We will supply a chairperson for these panels. Papers must be no longer than twenty minutes. For guidance, this would normally mean a paper of about 2,500 words in total. You may submit only one proposal.

As well as your personal details, you will be asked for a paper title and abstract (max. 2000 characters).

  • Panels

We strongly encourage the submission of pre-formed panels of usually three but occasionally four papers, along with a pre-assigned chairperson.

    • Papers in a three-paper panel must be no longer than twenty minutes each. This would normally mean each paper should be about 2,500 words in total.
    • Papers in a four-paper panel must be no longer than fifteen minutes each. This would normally mean each paper should be about 2,000 words in total.
    • If you would like to propose a double panel (two panels on the same topic to run consecutively) you may do so. Please submit each panel separately, giving them the same name but number them in the order in which you would them to run (For example, ‘Sewers and Sewerage 1’, ‘Sewers and Sewerage 2’).

As well as personal details, you will be asked for:

    • Panel title

  • Roundtables

A roundtable is a more informal session in which several speakers deal with a topic followed by extensive audience discussion. Each panellist may wish to begin the session with a short, introductory address; this should last no more than five minutes.
