Antonio Vivaldi – Gloria
Jean-Phillippe Rameau – Anacréon (1754)
The first complete performance in modern times

Music at Oxford writes: ‘In this long-awaited concert, one of sacred music’s great favourites,Vivaldi’s Gloria, will be followed
by the modern premiere of Rameau’s Anacréon, a light-hearted opera written for the court of Louis
XV. Reconstructed by Oxford conductor Jonathan Williams from manuscripts scattered throughout Paris’ libraries, Anacréon (1754) will receive tonight its much- anticipated first complete performance in over 250 years. On the surface it’s a charming tale of young love but hidden beneath the love-triangle plot lie subversive messages that Dan Brown would be proud of…What can it all mean? And will love prevail?’
