A Script-in-Hand rehearsed reading of  Nicholas Rowe’s THE FAIR PENITENT [1703]. The play is celebrated for being the one that introduces the character of Lothario into the English drama canon. He is quite a creation! Hugely popular in its time and praised by Samuel Johnson –  “There is scarcely any work of any poet so interesting by the fable and so delightful in the language”  – the play centres itself around issues of seduction, infidelity and the consequences of offended family honour.
