Chorus students of North London Collegiate and Harrow School

Handel composed Acis and Galatea in 1718 when he was living at Cannons (as it was spelt at the time), then the seat of the first Duke of Chandos. Handel wrote many works here including Acis and Galatea which was first performed there that summer on the terrace overlooking the gardens.

Nearly 300 years later this popular, witty masque will be performed in the place where it was first written and seen. The gardens at Canons will form the setting for a drinks reception before the performance and a picnic afterwards. The masque will be performed in the North London Collegiate School’s theatre which is located near the gardens. La Nuova Musica will be conducted by international baroque conductor Laurence Cummings with soloists Nick Pritchard (Acis), Lucy Page (Galatea), Simon Wall (Damon), Edward Grint (Polyphemus). The production will be directed by Martin Parr.
