Northumbria University invites applications from those interested in pursuing doctoral research that helps to expand our scholarly understanding of women’s relationship to the Creative Arts in the period 1660-1750. Proposals may focus on particular authors, artists, actresses, patronesses, creative groups and networks, or broader questions relating to the experience and representation of women in the Arts. Projects might consider the role of women within emerging professions in literature, art and the theatre, or on domestic acts of engagement. Applicants may wish to work with particular heritage sites or collections.

The studentship includes a full stipend, paid for three years at RCUK rates (for 2017/18, this is £14,553 pa) and fees.
