This illustrated talk celebrates the extraordinary life of Joseph Pickford’s little-known wife, Mary (1737 – 1812); entrepreneur, activist, and agent of charity. Dr Peter Collinge from Keele University will be exploring Mary Pickford’s pioneering role in the textile industry and how her political and philanthropic activities contributed to Derby’s urban development.
