BSECS Executive Committee Election Notice Back

Election Notice

The British Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies is seeking nominations for its Executive Committee. We are seeking:

  • One Ordinary Member (Student members of the Society are not eligible for this position.)

Elected individuals hold office on the Committee for three years, with the possibility of a single extension of two years. Those elected to the vacant posts will take up their positions at the end of January 2020.

All members of the Executive Committee are expected to take on responsibility for a particular area of the Society’s activities. These roles may vary over time. We encourage applicants from those interested in taking responsibility for the heritage portfolio; however we will also consider applicants with any areas of experience and interest.

It should be noted that Executive Committee members are required to attend the meetings of the committee and sub-committees, and that in the event of non-attendance at two successive meetings they risk being removed. The Executive Committee meets three times a year. The Society will pay travelling expenses for Executive Committee members within the UK.

Members seeking to stand for these posts can be self-nominated and should be seconded by a current member of the Society. Nominees must supply a short election statement (no more than 150 words) setting out their qualifications for the post; this will be made available to voters.

The British Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies (BSECS) seeks to create and support a diverse and inclusive community of researchers and scholars from all sections of society and warmly encourages applications to Executive Committee posts from members of underrepresented groups. Our Equality and Diversity statement is available here: https://www.bsecs.org.uk/the-society/equality-and-diversity/.

Nominations, secondings and statements should be sent to the Executive Secretary by email, to be received by 11.59pm on 11 December 2019, at the following address: secretary@bsecs.org.uk. Queries about the post can be addressed to president@bsecs.org.uk.
