Actor, manager, playwright, versifier, philosophical correspondent: David Garrick excelled in many parts, and was possibly one of the most praised and vilified cultural figures of his age. So, ‘Garrick and Shakespeare’ will focus on his achievements as a Shakespeare interpreter and impresario, but also re-examine Garrick’s controversial reputation, unprecedented celebrity status, and enduring cultural influence. Hosted by Kingston Univerity, The conference will take place at the Rose Theatre, Kingston-upon-Thames, and Garrick’s Temple, Hampron. Plenary speakers: Simon Callow, Norma Clarke Michael Dobson and Peter Holland.
