The year is 1700 and tonight you have the privilege of coming to Kensington Palace, where His Majesty William III and his court are in residence. You are nervous; how should you behave upon entering this royal lion’s den? In this talk Professor Robert Bucholz will lead you on a journey up the stairs and through the rooms of Kensington and other royal palaces, to learn about the etiquette required in visiting court in the late Stuart period, and the sights and sounds of its daily life.

Dr Robert Bucholz is Professor of History at Loyola University Chicago, where he has taught since 1988. He earned his BA in History from Cornell University and his DPhil in Modern History from the University of Oxford. Professor Bucholz is also the project director of the Database of Court Officers, which contains the career facts of every person who served in the British royal household from the Restoration to the death of Queen Victoria.
