Peter the Great’s visit to England in early 1698 Back

Peter the Great, Tsar of Russia, was invited to England in 1698 by King William III. During his stay, Peter sat at Kensington Palace for the artist Sir Godfrey Kneller; a portrait that still hangs in the Queen’s Gallery. Anthony Cross, Professor Emeritus of the University of Cambridge, will explore how Peter spent his time in England and how he was perceived through British eyes.
