Royal Holloway Picture Gallery, June 29th, 2-5pm

Royal Holloway English Department marks the retirement of Professor Judith Hawley with our own “Hawleypalooza”. We welcome 18th century scholars and friends from around the country with papers and tributes inspired by Judith’s work. The editor of Laurence Sterne, Henry Fielding, and Elizabeth Carter, Judith is also one of the UK’s authorities on the Scriblerian satirists, an innovator in the area of Amateur Studies, and a long-time contributor to the BBC’s In Our Time program. Speakers include Markman Ellis (QMUL), Rebecca Anne Barr (Cambridge), Elizabeth Eger (KCL), Matthew Sangster (Glasgow), Adam James Smith (York St. Johns), James Smith (RHUL), and John Regan (RHUL). This free event is open to all well-wishers, and to those interested in Judith’s scholarship and the 18th century. The event will be followed by a social evening in (hopefully) sunny Egham.
