We’re delighted to announce our Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), The Gothic Revival, 1700–1850: Interdisciplinary Perspectives.

Commencing on Monday 29 February 2016, this six-week course offers an exciting and intensive exploration of the Gothic aesthetic in British culture of the long eighteenth century. Particular topics of focus include the numerous meanings of the term ‘Gothic’ in the period, Gothic history and historiography, Gothic literature, architecture, interiors and visual art. Intended as an accessible introduction to the rich and varied field of Gothic studies, this course does not presume any previous knowledge of the subject on your behalf. Delivered by Dale Townshend and Peter Lindfield through an eclectic mix of mini-lectures, quizzes, reflective diaries and peer discussion, the course is designed further to stimulate your interest in, and knowledge of, the multi-disciplinary dimensions of the Gothic Revival.

This MOOC is part of a broader, Stirling-based research project entitled Writing Britain’s Ruins, 1700‒1850: The Architectural Imagination, and is generously funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (UK).
