Improving Mountain Agriculture? Debates and Reform Projects (1750–1850)

7-8 June 2027

Laboratorio di Storia delle Alpi, USI-Accademia di architettura, Mendrisio, Switzerland

In eighteenth-century Europe, agriculture became a central political and intellectual concern. This has attracted considerable scholarly interest. Mountains, however, have received comparatively little attention as places where ideas and projects for agrarian improvement were devised. This workshop examines how crop cultivation, livestock farming, and forestry were debated in mountain regions between 1750 and 1850.
